New publication from the eco2adapt project

We are pleased to share a new paper, “Economic incentives for conifers may limit broadleaf expansion in climate-adaptive European forests”, published in Communications Earth & Environment (Nature Portfolio).

Among the authors are researchers from the University of Belgrade – Institute for Multidisciplinary Research, National Institute of the Republic of Serbia: Dr Žaklina Marjanović, Dr Nikola Šušić and Lana Kukobat.

The study shows that while forest professionals recognise species diversity and mixed broadleaf–conifer forests as important climate adaptation measures, economic factors — particularly expectations regarding timber prices — can significantly influence forest management choices. The findings highlight the important interplay between ecological resilience and socioeconomic priorities in climate-adaptive forest management.

This research was carried out within the Horizon Europe project eco2adapt – Ecosystem-based Adaptation and Changemaking to Shape, Protect, and Sustain the Resilience of Tomorrow’s Forests, Grant Agreement No. 101059498, funded by the European Union.
