IMSI hosts kick-off meeting of international EUREKA project CERiMBAW

University of Belgrade – Institute for Multidisciplinary Research, National Institute of the Republic of Serbia hosted the kick-off meeting of the international EUREKA project E! 21293 CERiMBAW – Cement Replacement in Mortars By Activated Wastes.

The meeting was held on 12 May 2026 in Belgrade, at the Department of Materials Science, with the participation of representatives of the project partners. The introductory part of the meeting was dedicated to the presentation of the partner organizations, including IMSI, Saint-Gobain Construction Products Serbia, Saint-Gobain Weber Yapi Kimyasallari Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi, Afyon Kocatepe University, Saint-Gobain Hungary Kft. and University of Miskolc.

The opening remarks and overview of the project were given by Dr. Zvezdana Baščarević, Research Professor, project manager, while Dr. Milan Žunić, Research Professor, Assistant director, presented IMSI. After the introduction of the partners, a presentation of the project’s progress to date and a roundtable discussion dedicated to work plans, first results and next steps were held.

CERiMBAW project aims to develop sustainable building materials by investigating the possibility of replacing part of the cement in industrial mortars activated by waste materials. This approach contributes to reducing cement consumption, better utilization of waste materials and the development of solutions based on the principles of the circular economy.

The kick-off meeting represented an important step in establishing a joint work plan, exchanging initial results and defining further activities within the project.

This project “Cement Replacement in Mortars By Activated Wastes – 21293 CERiMBAW“ is co-financed by the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia through the EUREKA program.
