Research area

Integrated assessment of surface water quality using aquatic organisms as bioindicators of environmental health. In addition to the evaluation of basic physicochemical and microbiological water quality parameters, biomarker responses are analysed across multiple levels of biological organisation, from molecular and cellular to tissue level. Expertise includes the application of methods in microbiology, mutagenicity, toxicology, genetic toxicology, histopathology, as well as the analysis of microplastic particles in fish tissues for the assessment of ecological risk and the condition of aquatic ecosystems.

Skills

Analysis of metals and metalloids using the ICP-OES method, comet assay, micronucleus test, histopathological analyses of fish liver and gills, standard and enzymatic microbiological methods, light and fluorescent microscopy. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Statistica, and SPSS.
