Project description

The objective of MonStur in the Danube is to create the first joint sturgeon monitoring system in the Danube basin, which is well-established. Active use of this system by the ICPDR, national authorities and expert institutions, to combine and improve scattered data and macro-regional policies. The system will inform the success of measures to restore natural populations, protect and improve habitats, fisheries legislation and the development of infrastructure plans. The implementation is envisaged through specific objectives: Building a joint, international sturgeon monitoring system, facilitating the participation of experts and data users (SO1), Fostering joint management and ensuring increased cooperation and knowledge of stakeholders (SO2) and applicable monitoring methods that will reduce the knowledge gap and help in proposing new targeted conservation measures.

Data

The collection of all relevant data on sturgeons and the creation of the database will be coordinated by BOKU and ICPDR, while the data will be deposited and maintained by ICPDR.

Results

Development of a Transboundary Action Plan for Sturgeons in the Middle and Upper Danube, in order to improve cooperation and coordination of conservation activities. Publications in scientific journals are also planned.
