Scientific research encompasses the study of plant and animal organisms and tissues, algae, microorganisms, fungi, insects, polymers, and bioactive compounds, as well as complex processes within forest and agro-ecosystems in the context of green technologies and sustainability. Research at the Department is multidisciplinary in nature and employs state-of-the-art methods in biophysics, biochemistry, physical chemistry, molecular biology and physiology, ecophysiology, focuses on the plant physiology, examining the structure-function relationships of cell walls in response to abiotic and biotic stress, at the physiological, morphological, biophysical and biochemical levels, developing new methods for modifying plant cell wall biopolymers, obtaining efficient biocatalysts, synthesis and physicochemical characterization of nanomaterials, application of biophysical and biochemical methods in diagnostic and analytical studies, electrophysiological studies of the physiological properties of nervous system cells, and developing and applying mathematical and advanced statistical methods in experimental design and analysis of various types of experimental results.<br><br>The Group consists of three principal research fellows, seven senior research
