PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Within the project “Harmonization of methods for the monitoring of qualitative and quantitative composition of the fish stock of large rivers”, a cooperation was established between the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research (IMSI) from Belgrade, Serbia and the Institute of Zoology (IZ), Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, Slovakia. The main objective of this project related to harmonization and standardization of fish sampling methods in accordance with recommendation of EU, and a transfer of knowledge and experiences between the two institutions. Different sampling methods were analysed. Use of multimesh gillnets, hydroacoustics and electricity analysed as the basic monitoring within the scope of the EC Water Framework Directive (FWD). Additional analyses were oriented to some more specific methods for large river: work with drag-nets, drift-nets, trawlers and seines. Project started in January 2012, and lasted two years. During the project significant amount of data was collected and analyzed which allowed preparation of joint publications relating to the monitoring of qualitative and quantitative composition of the fish stock in large rivers. Also, results of investigation performed by both institutions were used for common active participation at conferences in Serbia, Slovakia and other countries. Data obtained by this project are valuable for holders of fishing rights in both countries.
