The Institute for Multidisciplinary Research (IMSI) was established in 1970 as the Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies of the University of Belgrade, with the aim to foster research and education of postgraduates in borderline disciplines and multidisciplinary sciences.
In 2007 the Centre was transformed to the research institute by the directive of the Serbian Government, and from 2009 it has again become the member of the University of Belgrade.
The three cross-linked departments (Materials Science, Life Sciences and Environmental Sciences) are organized to achieve the high quality of interdisciplinary research within bio- and technical sciences and the efficient use of the equipment. With more than 90 researchers (45 PhDs) the IMSI is an outstanding research institution and also an attractive educational environment for master and PhD students, with a long term devotion to promote scientific excellence.
